everyone has to start somewhere....how do all u programmers learn how to do it?

Me, I bought a book on VB and decided to learn to focus my mind...I suck at focusing my mind, so all I can do is make some crappy apps...but I'm learning more about classes and more advanced things as I go on, slowly due to being busy on other things...
I heard some people learned C++ first, but I don't know about that...I'm planning to learn that sometime...

i learnt PHP. it helps me make great websites. it is also a precursor to C, and otheres.

Java is a good language to start with.


Just Pick up a book from a library or bookstore, and read it and follow along.

I'm learning C++, never learned VB or so.... I'm using a book, it's in dutch so I don't think it will be of any use to you (unless you speak dutch of course )

read it a couple of times
sat down and fiddled

but most of it is learnt throught trial and error i'd say.
then i learnt php and never got the hang of it.

Hi, i'm studying Computer engeneering but i started learning a long time ago on my own.

My learning 'route' was something like:
learning basic (i did so by making a complete, yet simple, game and by looking at examples that did the parts i wanted to know how to do), then Pascal, Delphi, C, Java....

However that took a lot of time, maybe the aproach of my course is a good one:
they start by teaching you how to code, using a functional paradigm language: Scheme(similar to Lisp) wich is a simple and uniform language.

I started with VB, by reading articles and tutorials on the net. Then I met Delphi and was amazed with it and never touched VB again. I also learned it by myself, reading on the net (http://delphi.about.com is a great site for learning Delphi).

I look at websites mainly to get help and ask questions on forums, forums like this one. I'm learning PHP and i'm quite impressed at how well i'm doing

My websites work really well and I can introduce new features to it

books... meh

get "For Dummies" or "Sam's" books from your library for whatever language ur planning on
