O.P. Huh?  Transferring Preferences
OK, I have two computers, an old computer and a new. I want to transfer my Plus! preferences from one computer to another.

So I save my preferences in the old computer, and load it in my new computer, and... nothing happens.

None of my preferences appear. What has happened? Am I supposed to do something else? I've tried restarting MSN Messenger, and tried saving/loading at least twice, both times making sure I'm logged in when saving/loading, and I still don't have my preferences. :S

Could somebody help?

Are you sure you export (and import) all the preferences (ie: you check all the checkboxes)?

do you get any error message? What operating systems (like windows 98, xp, etc..) are you running in both computers? do you have the needed rights to modify the registry in the new computer?

O.P. RE: Transferring Preferences
OK, first I will tell you my computer specs.

My old computer is Windows 98 SE, and I do have full admin rights (even though it doesn't say anywhere) as I can install anything and access anything.

My new computer is Windows XP Professional (a big jump, but I just got an upgrade ;)) and I do have admin rights there too.

I do make sure all the checkboxes are checked. They are automatically checked anyway. I export (save) on the old and import (load) on the new, transferring the file over the network via one other computer (my home computer) which both laptops can access, as they can't access each other directly (It's Windows ME, but I just store the file there, don't do anything)

Finally, no error messages appear. It says it's successfully loaded the preferences and nothing is loaded.

RE: Transferring Preferences
you're doing everything correctly, so I don't know why it fails. The only thing I can  say is this: Are you signed in when exporting and importing the preferences? You have to.

O.P. RE: Transferring Preferences
I've just tried it one more time. I logged in both times, made sure I was exporting/importing appropriately, unselected and reselected all checkboxes so I knew they were selected, and still there was nothing. :(

Maybe I can give you the file produced so you can check what's on it (I don't want it to work for you though and get rid of your preferences, that would be too unlucky. Doesn't work for me but it works for you ;))

But otherwise, it looks it might be easier to just start over from the start again... :(

I can't do anything with that file because I don't know its internal format. If Patchou notices this thread maybe he can help.

it'd be a pity, but I don't know what else you could do :-/

The other option is Export the Registry settings and import them on the other computer.

Keys you want to export are
HKCU\Software\Patchou\MsgPlus2\%youremail%
HKLM\Software\Patchou\MsgPlus2\%youremail%

Whoooohoooooo!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Sorry, but Matty has done it. Thanks a lot mate :D

Quick note though. The one in the:

HKLM\Software\Patchou\MsgPlus2\

There was just that. Not my e-mail. But I transferred both Keys and I have my settings. Again, thank you very much Matty. Very cool.

Also thanks a lot to all who helped. I just guess that the lack of that last Key was stopping the transfer, but I don't know for sure :)

in HKLM there's no entry with your email, so that wasn't the problem.

Sorry I was working on 12 hours sleep in 2 days.... But good thing that worked. When Patchou comes online I will direct him to this thread.
