O.P. Paralised down one side
there seems to be a problem with my pc. i was playing music in winamp and listening out of the earphone socket, when suddenly the left ear stopped workng, i fiddled the plug a bit but still there was no luck. the right ear continued to play while the left ear remained muted. i unplugged the earphones. and the right speaker continued to play it's music but the left speaker did not. i looked into control pannel and the volume options, but still the left side of my computer will not produce a sound.

(running WinXP + winamp 5 in classic view)

can you hear with your left ear?       j/k ;)

Well, are you sure that the music you were listening to wasn't corrupted and is supposed to play on both sides?

Also, can you hear music from the left speaker if you use another program? Maybe your sound card was broken.

as a matter of fact, many soundboards, cut the sound on the speakers if you use headphones, and direct the sound again to the speakers if you unplug the headphones. This is very normal.....

ur using a sound card? Then try directly pluging it into ur mother board. If you dual boot then also try it in your other OS.

ooooooooooooooooook, i though all computers had sound cards, maybe not,

not that i'd be able to plug anything into anything without blowing the damn thing up, i think it sounds quite a bit out of my league.

lol...I don't have a sound card and my sound own3d all ;) My mother board's stock one is prety good...I don't know how u could test without using another OS on your PC or re-installing ur current one....but check for this:

If ur speakers are plugged into the same card as your keyboard/mouse, u have no sound card.

If ur speakers are NOT plugged into the same card as ur keyboard/mouse then you DO have a sound card - move the chords to your mother board, or get someone who knows what they're doing to do it :P
