O.P. Dodgy  Please help INSTALLING the sponsor...
Ok, Chrono and I were trying to install Plus! with the sponsor program, so we had better info to give to the spanish users regarding that issue....

In my case, I reinstalled the "pre-release" (the last one before the oficial release) and it didnt installed the sponsor....not casino icons, not a "mysearchbar" nothing....

Then I downloaded the official version from (http://www.msgplus.net) and still the same result....

I first thought that the google bar may had something to do, and i disable it...same story...I unistalled Plus without saving my preferences...unistall the plugins i have....same story....

In the "Program Files" Directory a "C2 Media" folder is created, with a "Setup.exe" file in it.... I clicked on that file and it said that i must use the file as a part of a parent program....

Im using windows xp sp2, and mi antivirus is mcaffee...

Chrono told me that he's using a fresh install of Windows 98 and no antivirus....

Freaking Sponsor program....never works when you need it.... :P

RE: Please help INSTALLING the sponsor...
Hahaha... it's indeed the first time I see that kind of "complaint". The explanation is very simple: in order to calm down some of the usual complains, C2Media is currently testing delayed installation of the software. This means that once installed, nothing is deployed on your computer before about 24 hours. It seems that many people who uninstall Plus!, unisntall it during the first day of use. This is in part due by the fact that many people expect something different (like Trillian). These people will never see a trace of the sponsor on their system, it'slike somekind of trial period. Even better, if they have something like SpyBot S&D running (I'm in no way suggesting you should, this stuff kills your computer speed), it will detect the setup and delete it before it's used.

So, if you wanna test the sponsor, just add like 2 days to your clock and wait a couple of minutes :). Note: I've spoke to one of my translators about this and he didn't like it as it found it sneaky. Before you give the same argument, remember that we're talking about 1 day of delay here, not a week. Except if you install 10 software a week, you'll know when the stuff comes from. I'm pretty sure that this new "feature" will help keep my users happy and it won't leave a bad taste just right at the end of the setup. If it works well and if we don't lose too much money with it, it will stay. A special paragraph has been added in the end of the license agreement to talk about it (many people just scroll right to the bottom of the agreement so they will see the delay install notice).

And what about the people who keep Plus! after 1 day. Wont many complain with the "sneaky"-argument? Also, because it is put on after 1 day it can be seen as a more devious way to hide the fact that Plus! comes with a sponsor. In a sense those people have now more rights in saying it is spyware. Also, more people maybe wont put the link between the installed adware and Plus! and use methods like ad-aware to remove it...

Dunno, in a way it is a good thing (seeing it from the point of someone who knows what's going on), but on the other hand it seems that it can do more harm then good (seeing it from the point of view from someone who doesn't know what's going on or from someone who work/reports for those anti-spyware things)

Only time will tell I suppose...

I know I'm a newbie talking to the high & mighty of Plus! here (no sarcasm intended), but even if you do know what's going on, that's gonna seem hugely sneaky.

It's great for those who do uninstall Plus! the same day, but what about those who uninstall Plus! after a couple of days without going on the net, or those who primarily use another browser, like Opera or Firefox (I myself am one of those, so I'm biased there)? The latter could go weeks before seeing it... & that's going to cause heavy use of Ad-Aware & the Del key!

Regards,
Fred Greg.

P.S.

Here's what I reckon is a perfect example:

The delayed installation hs nothign to do with which browser you use... the sponsor is installed the next day automatically, even if your computer is idle.

I udnerstand yourconcerns, however, delayed installation doesn't mean spywayre.. a spyware is a program that spies on your activities without you knowing it.. adware is all the countrary: all adware wants is to show you it's here (with a search bar or popup advertisement) in order to generate some money. So far so good, people don't seem to be complaining too much about this, we'll see inthe future... I know some people will complain but we'll have to see if the frequency is above or below what we had before. If things go real bad, I'll remove the delay.
