O.P. Software to view other computer users desktop
Hi, is there any software out there that I could use to watch his desktop to help my friend as he searches around his computer through various programs. I want to tell him what to click etc.

Well, there are programs which can do it also for win98 etc. but they often aren't free, and cost much...

such programs include
RealVNC - http://www.realvnc.com/
TightVNC - http://www.tightvnc.com/
pcAnywhere - http://www.symantec.com/pcanywhere/
GoToMyPC - http://www.gotomypc.com
LapLink
etc...

some are free, some aren't, not all programs can do everything, etc. But the rule is that all such programs should be installed on both the requestor, as the receiver's end...

Actually: You don't need Windows XP anymore - Windows has released a sumpliment program for Windows 98 or higher, so search around for the version of "Remote Assistance" for your PC.

No, that doesn't exist...

However, what does exist is "remote desktop client", which can run on win98/win2k. But that is something entirly different. Also with the "remote desktop client" software you still can only remotely access a "desktop" on XP Pro or Windows Server200x, because that are the only OS's which have the host/server-application. And remotely access means access, not sharing (like you can do in "remote assistance")...

So, don't confuse "remote desktop" with "remote assistance" (the confussion is easly done though). They are two different access models. What he wants is "remote assistance". And AFAIK that can only be done with XP (or with any of the special softwares available)...
