O.P. MSN Messenger Virus
My friend (who is VERY computer illiterate) has a virus that sends a message everytime she sends a message. Does anyone know how to get rid of this? It is driving me insane!?!?! I've tried to get her to download anti-virus's etc but its not working.

.jpg File Attachment: virus.jpg (12.08 KB)
This file has been downloaded 1064 time(s).

RE: MSN Messenger Virus
For Win XP:

1. Click RUN
2. Type Regedit in RUN
3. go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
4. Once you found 'Run' search for these registries "realone_nt2003" and "realone_nt2004"
5. Delete them
6. Press Crtl-Alt-Delete to load the Windows Task Manager, end all processes for "MONIKER.EXE" and "SYSLRAY.EXE"

Next go to:
C:\windows\system32\

and erase the following archives:

"MONIKER.EXE", "SYSLRAY.EXE", "HKT1.DLL"

7. UNINSTALL MSN and reinstall on startup.

You might wanna do it for your friend..try remote assist (in main msn screen your friend does: actions > ask for remote assistance) ;)
If she is using another OS tell me and i will try find the solution.

RE: MSN Messenger Virus
You can access remote assistance through both MSN and windows messenger (same result)...aslong as windows messenger isnt deleted or remote assistance disabled there should be no problem :)

Remote desktop isn't part of anything, it is "standalone" (mind the quotes)...

Although, Windows Messenger needs to be installed on your system to launch Remote Desktop, Remote Desktop isn't part of Windows Messenger...

The easiest way of launching it is thru Windows Messenger or MSN Messenger.
But you can even launch Remote Desktop via email if you wish (see your Windows Help for more details)...

Also MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger can perfectly be closed while you are running Remote Desktop...
