O.P. Roll Eyes  "PC Optimizers" - Trust them or not?
Hello...

I was bored so I went to download.com to look for software.
I picked this category: Optimizers & Diagnostics.
Then I sorted by votes.
Now I checked some programs...
The CNET reviews were giving 5 and there were many good comments but also some bad.
The bad comments were saying that program A deleted explorer.exe on uninstallation and that program B "killed" their registry when optimizing it.

The good comments were saying that program A doubled their PC speed and that program B made their registry file smaller.

Here's some programs for example:
http://www.download.com/Ace-Utilities/3000-2086_4...7.html?tag=lst-3-3
http://www.download.com/TuneUp-Utilities/3000-208...9.html?tag=lst-3-6
http://dw.com.com/redir?pid=10296701&merid=82158&....html&tag=lst-3-11
http://www.download.com/PCBoost/3000-2086_4-10160433.html?tag=lst-0-1

Here's the complete list:
http://www.download.com/sort/3150-2086_4-0-1-3.html?

Do you trust these programs?
Do you think that they will scr*w my computer?
YouTube closed-captions ripper (also allows you to download videos!)

I don't tend to trust these things, something like that for free is too good to be true

I don't trust programs like those, unless they have a very specific purpose, tell you exactly what they're messing with, and won't do irreversible damage to your system. :p

And unless you've neglected to maintain your PC with standard tools and practices, the claims of significantly improving performance are BS, IMO. :-/

I don't use these programs for the simple fact that most of the changes can be done in the registry or in the control panel anyways. All these programs really do are give n00bs ways to screw up their computers. Also, the way I do it, I know what's changing, and how to unchange it.

I would recomend not using these softwares most of them are spyware or adware or add some crap or they other to your computer
and they do all the other work but the ones they are supposed to do

once i ahd read somewhere that such softwares always gives some error regarding the uncompatibility with your computer but installs all they other crap so they get their a** saved because it was compatible

but their work was done anyways and all that was optoimised was their pockets :P

so well yeah go out and buy some ram better than download =ing such crap

Your really overlooking the fact that you can just backup one section of the registry. My final verdict, except for RAM mangers for people who have low RAM, don't trust such things. I used a program called FreeRAM XP Pro. Worked like a charm. I highly recommend. But this isn't really a PC optimizer, so :blah::refuck:
