Hi all

I'm new to the forum so if I'm posting this in the wrong place please let me know.

My problem is that when I start messenger with Plus! enabled and the Audiator 3 plugin activated, ALL other sounds on my system stop working - including all messenger sign in/out sounds.  the only ones that do work are the audiator ones.  Windows media player (or any ohter player for that matter) says that my sound device is not functioning properly when I know fullwell that it is.

What I'm wondering is: is my problem a bug in audiator whereby it is owning my soundcard or is it the fact that I need to update direct X in order to update my version of direct sound?  Or could my problem be somethin else?

I you know pleas help me because I love this plugin but if I cant solve this problem it'll have to go.  Maybe optimism_ knows something.

AFAIK, Audiator does not gain exclusive rights to the sound card (no program should: the OS prevents it).
The most likely reason is that either DirectX does not support your soundcard properly, or the card's drivers are buggy. You can always update DirectX, as well as your card's drivers, to the latest version possible. This should hopefully fix the problem.

You didn't give many details such as MsgPlus version, MSN Messenger version, Audiator version, Operating system.

Pre-WinXP only allows one sound to play at any one time, but Audiator shouldn't be playing a sound continuously, silent or otherwise.

I don't think there's much more I can suggest until you provide more details, except that you ensure that you have the latest sound card drivers, Windows Updates, and the latest version of Fmod (www.fmod.org), which is the system that Audiator uses to play sounds.

ok.  I have udated my SB drivers to the latest available.  I have also upgraded fmod to the latest release. (or at least the dll file.  if there is more i have to do please let me know).

Even after doing this, the problem still persists.  please help!

Try updating DirectX too.
