RE: Open hotmail in Default browser
Yes it does. When you are using the open hotmail in default browser option, SPNG creates a file in your temp directory called spng_redirect.html that logs you in to hotmail. That file is then opened in your default browser. Maxthon set the standard shell\open\command reg key, but not the DDE ones. For some reason this usually made it the default browser when opening html files, but not when SPNG opened its file. Modifying those keys made it work perfectly

Gah...CookieRevised modified his post n now this doesn't flow on properly. Yes, I am talking abt the You have x new emails, and the popups that appear when you receive an email

My whole point was that your solution (with the registry keys) will not work as long as you don't use StuffPlug-NG, because MSN Messenger on its own doesn't use the "normal way" (aka html association) concearning this link. So we were talking about different things...

Yes, and StuffPlug-NG makes it so, by using a file, that your default association for HTML files is used instead of the normal way that MSN Messenger uses to open that link. Otherwise it will still open in MSIE regarding your default browser setting (and thus those registry keys) as long as you don't use StuffPlug-NG.

Yep, now I agree, because StuffPlug-NG is used and so your registry keys do make sense...

In short: we were talking about different things: I though you came with that solution to proof that you don't need StuffPlug-NG in order to let it work.

Sorry, I did not realise you were talking about without SPNG. I was saying that adding those keys make it work with SPNG and Maxthon.

No, you didn't change the essence of your post. However the "Yes it does" was in reply to your last sentence which is no longer your last sentence (I can't remember what it was now), hence the it doesn't flow

Do I just change the value data from IExplore to Maxthon?

After I change the value. it still didnt work, so i proceed to change other additional value and reboot but it failed. Following I check the settings on the Stuffplug configuration and discover tat the "open hotmail inbox in default browser" wasnt check.

Thanks anyway!

I think the reason Maxthon doesn't work might be that it doesn't associate itself with html files on the local disk (check with Start -> Run). I'll see if I can put a file:// in front of the command line or something and see if that works :P

Actually, Maxthon does associate istelf with html files, it just doesn't do a very good job. It creates a new action called Maxthon, and sets it as the default. It also changes the command for open to Maxthon, but does not change any of the DDE settings. If the DDE application is set to IExplore (as it probably will be for most ppl), then the open command will run IE. If it is set to anything else, then the open command will run Maxthon (This may be the case if you have switched from a non-IE browser to Maxthon).

As explorer uses the default action, it Maxthon will open when you double click on html files. Anything that uses the open action (as I presume SPNG does) will open IE on most Maxthon systems.

You could change SPNG to use the default action instead of open, as that is what most ppl would consider the default browser to be. I will contact the author of Maxthon about its behaviour. BTW, did you see my post about adding the mark of the web to the generated page?

With regard to something similar but is  off-topic, the hyperlink on excel spreadsheet oso default to using MS I.E browser when clicked.

Any idea how to make the default browser activate instead of Internet Explorer?
