O.P. alternate MSN. my college blocked default ports
Starting this morning, the college blocked the port for msn. Is there a way to change the ports in the registry, or any alternate programs that can still connect.

All sites for web based MSN clients are also blocked.I just did a port scan and these are the open ports:
21 ftp
25 smtp
80 http
135 epmap
139 netbios-ssn
443 https
445 microsoft-ds
1025
1027
1050
2869
3389
8081

The direction at the college has to say we dont need it for my computer programming course... if thats the case they might as well take the door off while theyre at it since we dont need it to learn...help !

You could try using one of the web messenger services available.

www.e-messenger.net is a good one. If your college has blocked this website use a public proxy site to access it. (thePROXY.tk)

I used this the other day and it works like a charm.

Just a web based version of msn without installing anything. Its safe and secure so your account details arent at risk.

:) have fun.

Clearly, you don't scan for spyware?
Because Hopster installs the Spyware "Webhancer"

In matter of fact, Hopster is complete bullshit if you see
how hopster operates.
I had Msn Messenger configured in Hopster and then
i have blockt Msn Messenger in my firewall (Sygate Personal Firewall Pro) and then try to login with Msn Messenger.
Suddenly Sygate ask for Hopster get permission to access the internet, then i block that en Msn couldn't login.
Hopster tries to hijack applications, but uses the same ports
as the original apllication.
Conclusion off this story is, that Hopster is crap and installs
garbage.

Excuss me for write mistakes, but i'm from Belgium.:)

Hopster works and (to my knowledge) doesn't have spyware (though I don't use it at home). It's a proxy, though, so the ports don't change.

If I were you I'd try a program like Messenger2 or Trillian (they connect to the same server but use a different format.)

Trillian
Messenger2

now they blocked hopster. are there any other ways to bypass the firewall ?

i tried theproxy.tk for webmessenger.msn and i get an error about an unsecure server. on e-messenger the login panel does not appear when going on with theproxy.tk

a friend suggested httpport... anyone familiar with this program ?

A good firewall is not simple to bypass.
Each application that tried's to access the internet will
be detected en blockt if there's no permission for in the firewall.

Also application Hijacking is not possible because
a good firewall detects this.

If there's no advanced rule made in de firewall,
you can forget it to use een application that bypass the firewall.
Even proxy's go tro firewalls , so thats not a sollution,
because then there are just other ports dan orginally used by the application, but the application will still be blockt if there's no persmission for.
