Hi,

The following problem occurs with MSN messenger 6.2 or the 7.0 beta. Some time ago I was able to help my parents by taking control of their computer. For some days now, I can't connect anymore.

They ask for the assistance, I hit "accept" and then nothing happens. I am not sure if this happened after I installed norton Systemworks 8. Anyway I uninstalled it and the problem still occurs. I also uninstalled messenger and reinstalled it but nothing changes.
I also checked that the XP firewall didn't switch to ON magically but no it is OFF.
Plus! was installed previously but now it is not.

Update: whiteboard doesn't work anymore also...

Any idea on what I could try ?

Have either of you uninstalled Windows Messenger? If so make sure Windows Messenger is installed on both computers...the Windows Messenger API is needed for Whiteboard and Remote Assistance

Check if you got remote assistance enabled: start > controlpanel > system > remote acces (tab)

If you previously uninstalled windows messenger, reinstall it. Remote assistance uses windows messenger api (from the info you gave it looks like either windows messenger isn't there at all or it got cripled somehow).

Yes I uninstalled Windows Messenger. After reading what you say about the API, it seems you have the solution. Thanks a lot, I'm in a hurry to try (I can't currently).

But just one thing : I uninstalled Windows Messenger because it was in conflict with MSN messenger. Even if I set that Windows messenger doesn't start automatically I had MSN messenger havinf frequent disconnections because "I connected elsewhere"... !! Any solution for this other problem ?

Now it works like a charm again.
