As long as you dont download any dodgy programs, or recive any dodgy files then the answer is no
But there are some malware that targets messenger clients once they've been downloaded.
But as i said, aslong as ur careful what you get of others then youll be alright

In reality, the answer to this question is YES.  The reason being that no matter how hard we try, EVERY program has a bug in some form or another.  On average, 1 new bug is discovered in software every 6 hours, sometimes its every 6 minutes, sometimes its every 6 seconds.

New bugs are always found.  But as long as you keep up to date, you'll be fine :).

They were asking about viruses not bugs... and yes someone you know may send you a file but it may not actually be them sending it, it may be the virus. So yes it can happen just be sure you know what the file is and who the person is

The chances are very slim just make sure you have virus software and dont open dodgy files from people you dont know

I have my virus scanner to scan all incoming MSN messenger files, you just need to know the command parameters and voila' your files recieved through MSN Messenger will be scanned by your virus scanner!
I should change my sig ay?

I don't think that'll happen cause thats quite unprobable.
