O.P. The rules..
..it seems that most of the new members don't even know they exist.

Those are the forum rules, you will notice they are now in the top menu in a nice little red colour. READ THEM
Maybe it's just me...but I can't see the nice little link in the user-menu anymore.
There definately should be little red link up there again, then people would have no excuse to not have read them.

Just the link in the quick-reply box isn't enough (and it's the only link I have seen so far). People who come here to ask a question won't notice it.
I don't remember if a link to the rules is shown when you register, if not, this would be a good idea to do so. Maybe also a link from the Help Documents page would be good.

Edit: A bit offtopic, but (how) can I rate a thread ? I can't find the link whatsoever. I think there once was some sort of place to rate a thread...

Oh...didn't notice that
well that's just like the license agreement...who reads it ?
I think they should be constantly reminded that rules exist and to read them from time to time (e.g a link).

You really think they'll click the link if they didn't bother to read the rules when they registered? :p

I think Chris removed the red link because it was ugly and annoying to us experienced members.

I didn't read the rules either when I registered, but as I became a more active member I read them because I saw the red link which was up there at this time.

Then put a normal link up there, atleast in the help page.
We can't say to every new member "Read the rules!" if there's just this little link in the quick reply box, it can be overseen easily.

DZ I don't think it should be in a iframe because it makes the page smaller. What about including the page that way they can't just click the button, it would make them more likely to skim over the text instead of just clicking away

Bottom right hand corner of a page, it says select a rating

Well, it's a big page... I don't want it to seem too overwhelming... :^)

WDZ, if people don't read the sposnor agreement then what in hell makes you think they'll read the forum rules? :P

His lazyness :P

A little link in this user-menu (the logout - user cp - memberlist - etc) and in the helps page doesn't hurt anyone.
As I said, I think that just this little link in the quick reply box isn't enough.

RE: The rules..
I think that there should be something so that the n00bs (sorry) will read such a thing, as there are too many violations of these rules, surely if they were more advertised then they wouldn't be violated as much, is there a possibility of a timer or something so that they have to read them or they can't post? I'm not sure... I know that the rules are in every sub-forum... but a lot just pass by them as a sticky, at least make the titles of them red, they blend in too much with the 'sticky' threads and stuff ...
