i have been looking around lots of computer sites and im not sure what to buy. i have a broadband modem on one computer and i can connect my second computer to it through an ethernet connection. the only problem is i cant have ne wires goin through the ceiling downstairs to upstairs.

what would i need to buy to have the second computer (upstairs) wirelessly connected to the modem downstairs

I suppose that really depends on what you class as "expensive", but it will probably cost more to set up a wireless network than if you ran a long cable between the two machines.
