O.P. Suggestion: [abbr] Code for abbreviations
Can we have a [abbr] tag? Like

code:
[abbr=abbreviation]abbr[/abbr]

would become

code:
<abbr title="abbreviation">abbr</abbr>

Because this would be really nice.

Example: http://www.w3.org/wiki/HTML/Elements/abbr

(hold your mouse over "XHTML")

Actually, I quite like the idea, it would stop people from asking what it means, but, new users would know about such a thing and would have to be told wouldn't they... so if only more experienced members knew about it, then surely they would know what these 'abbreviations' mean anyway...

This tag would have to automatically replace the abbreviation for it to be truly useful, like the Messenger Plus MSN Plus does. And could also have a brief explanation about what it is...There could be an option to have ticked with elaborate on some terms.

wtf... if you're gonna type the full word anyway, you might as well not use the abbreviation. :-/

Set up an automatic word filter for when a possible unknown title is used to change to that tag which explains it.
For example when I type API and then when sent API is changed automatically to [abbr=Aplication Programming Interface]API[/abbr].
There could be an option if you want these filters to be used on your post or not.

New users don't know about attachments and stuff either. They just have to mouse over the abbreviation

That's true.. but writing out full "I want to learn the eXtensible HyperText Markup Language" is stupid.. and by using the abbreviation, you immediately explain to people who don't know what XHTML is what it means. You could ofcourse also say: I have a question about XHTML: How do I use Doctypes? (for XHTML newbies: XHTML is the eXtensible HyperText Markup Language)

It's a W3C compliant tag.. doesn't it work in IE? :|
