RE: DirectX
I don't see how MSN's installer could cause that...but if you don't have DirectX you might as well get it...

RE: DirectX
This might solve the problem:

1) Go to Start > Run
2) Type: msiexec /unreg <enter> and wait until it appears to have finished.
3) Go back to Start > Run
4) Type: msiexec /regserver <enter>
5) Try to install MSN Messenger again.

RE: DirectX
Which Windows version do you have?

If you use 95, 98 or ME try downloading the newest Windows Installer:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?Re...a=search&ordinal=1

Otherwise try this:

quote:
If you get this message
Disk Error -- Reserved error (-1601)

To resolve this problem, shut down the Windows Installer service and then re-register it. This makes sure that the Windows Installer engine functions properly. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type msiexec /unreg and then click OK.

3. When this process is complete, click Start, and then click Run.

4. In the Open box, type msiexec /regserver,

Then MSN version 6.xx will easily install.

EDIT:
Sunshine was faster :dodgy:
