is there a key or a combination to press on the keyboard to change the size of the text you are writing. like ctrl + b makes the text bold is there a ctrl + ......   to be able to enter a size?

Use Ctrl + Shift + P to be able to change the font size.
Alternatively, use Ctrl + [ and Ctrl + ] to decrease or increase the font size 1 point.

THANK YOU SOOOOOOO MUCH. this will be extremely useful. i was looking through word help for about 30 minutes of my geography lesson for this because trying to select the size you want with a school mouse....well, the mice might aswell not be in the damn machines...
