Last Wednesday I bought the BenQ FP71G monitor.

I like it, but the problem is - games and some videos are too dark. For example, in a FFVII trailer I watched I could see 1 guy's face before which is now just black, and in a Splinter Cell 3 trailer I couldn't see ANYTHING. Also: I had to jack up the game brightness in CS and CS: Source.

Don't tell me to adjust the screen's brightness bcz I have it at 92/100 brightness and 55/100 contrast (and if I jack it up, the screen is TOO bright + the game and video doesn't get any better). I want to stickk with a 500:1 or greater contrast ration and a 12ms or less response time.

I'm thinking of exchanging it for an awesome [better] LG, but before I do can I get some help to possible fix mine?

Hm, that's strange.   Maybe it's not your monitor at all, but your video card ?  Maybe you have to reinstall drivers or something so that your monitor knows ... :x


But uhm,  here's a choice that's a 19" that's cheaper than the LG one you might get.

You should be able to change the settings using the buttons on the monitor, or goto control panel and Benq has some software tp change the looks of the LCD....

Thanks for the help, but 1) Things look fine on my old CRT monitor with the same video card, and 2) Those prices are in USD so they're actually more

Also: I don't really like Daewoo, and the Sony has a 16ms response time (I want 12 or under )

BenQ doesn't have that much software support, and the monitor settings are at the max brightness/contrast I can stand. Even when I crank up the settigns it doesn't help.

hey blade buy mine ...LG Flatron L1730S...got 4,5 stars in a magazine and it's not very expensive(350 € ~ 225 pounds ~ 455 Us $) sorry i dont know the cannadian dollar value ...response time 12 ms ...here's a url with it...

Um, Johny, That's the same monitor I listed in my first post...

It's not really a strange issue with LCD's, the brightness of the display and such as you're right - contrast/brightness controls wont make much of a difference. It is how the LCD is good at displaying shades/greyscale in dark areas.

There are a few LCD's by CMV, http://www.cmv.com.tw/en/default.asp which have been rated very exellently and are pretty cheap.

You might want to check out some of the Samsung ones, http://www.samsung.com as they have been rated very well too (Better than the CMV I believe). However a lot of Samsung LCD's only have the D-Sub (Analog) input and not the newer DVI (Digital) input.

I've been looking more in the 19" range for an LCD though so my recommendations (and the ones I looked at with CMV/Samsung) are based on that size..

Well Samsung is the only one out of there I might choose, but the Samsung ones aren't as good [well the ones I can get here at least ]


In my experience - LG makes very sharp, crisp and clear LCD monitors and tvs.

Problem with LG's i heard an was told, you have to have somehting like 12 Pixels dead before warranty comes in
