O.P. benifits of linux
does anyone here use linux, cos i'm using windows at the mo but editing graphics absolutely runs it down and is stupidly annoying, i'm wondering if installing linux would make graphic editting easier.

thanx

Penguin your PC performance when it comes to grafics counts on :

Your Ram
Your Processor Speed
The Ram you grafix editing program uses...

So if you have low specs you cant expect to get alot from another OS, cause it basicly would be the same, plus you wouldnt have many programs to edit images in linux has in windows..so stick up with windows :cheesy:

Then buy one or two parts for it. Probably the cheapest upgrade would be extra RAM.

If you're using Windows XP, there's several ways you can make it use less processor power and RAM to make it run smoothly.

Start > Control Panel (classic view) > System > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Adjust for best performance > OK.

Also try using a theme like Classic Windows...

yes i use Linux.. anna see the Benefits. Google them. but if ya want my advice.. you got the freedom of choice in DE, an or anything else you use,  go to www.gnome.org thn go to www.kde.org then go to www.freedesktop.org , the rending engine in Linux, is much improvemt  like X.Org. as to the windows aka Microsoft one, . you might wanan checkout www.X.org or is it Xorg.org?.. one of those anyway

Plus you got Security.  SElinux, much better than Windows,  the list goes on,, but google those

for a list of Distro's look at http://distrowatch.com/
