Is there a plug in (or could someone make one) which automatically changes my name depending on what network i'm on. For example if my laptop is connected to my home network it displays TAC@home, if i'm at uni it displays TAC@uni.

a plugin for this would be totally useless.

There is a registry setting called NameOnSignin, which can change ure name on signin funnily enough and you could set it both at home and Uni to automatically do what you want.
