O.P. Now Playing: Winamp 5 + Windows Messenger 4.7
Hi All,

I'm trying to add now playing information to my Windows Messenger nickname from Winamp.

I've been searching for a couple of days now and there seem to be plenty of Winamp plugins, Messenger plugins etc which all claim to be able to add now playing information. A few good ones I have found are listed below:

Toast for Winamp: http://winamp.com/plugins/details.php?id=138586
AMIP: http://amip.tools-for.net/index.php?content=about

Neither of these applications are compatible with Windows Messenger, both only work with MSN Messenger 7.

I have also found an application that successfully changes my Messenger nickname but fails to remember settings across launches of Winamp and also prevents left clicks on the Winamp playlist. I think it was written for Winamp 2. Unfortunately i've lost the URL; all I can remember was that the website was in French!

Does anyone know of any existing applications or any in the pipeline that can do what I'm after?

Thanks in advance,

Jamie

PS - Please don't ask me to get MSN Messenger, I realise this might not be a popular opinion but its just plain bloatware ;-)

Thanks for the quick reply and your help!

Unfortunately, either this pluggin or Messenger Plus! itself seems unable to change the nickname in Windows Messenger (as opposed to MSN Messenger). The nickname change also has to be explicitly selected where I was looking for an automated solution.

I would be grateful for any other suggestions.

you must edit the settings for the plugin to allow it to work.

Hi,

The Configuration button on the pluggins button is greyed out no matter how I select the plugin. I'm aware of the configuration options that are available through the commands in the readme but they don't seem to solve my problems.

Cheers,

I've tried the pluggins / apps on the page you sent me, thanks a lot for that!

Unfortunately the only one I can get to work with Windows Messenger works by faking the opening of the options screen. It is also a standalone application.

I suspect that this is related to a wider issue in that Windows Messenger does not allow extensions such as MsgPlus! to change the user's Nickname. Is this correct? If so does anyone know if any forthcoming versions of MsgPlus are likely to get around this limitation?

Cheers,

- Jamie
