O.P. Huh?  Custom name attach original name colours?
Hey I've just noticed when you use the new append original name to custom name thing in the contact list it removes all formatting for the original name on the list, is there anyway for it to show the custom name then the original name with it's usual colours instead of dulled out?

Yes, use the color tags inside your edited custom name (CTRL+K, CTRL+B, etc...). And you can use the (!N) and (!M) tag to specify the original name or email if you want...

PS: this was already possible in the previous versions too (it wouldn't be visible in the contactlist of course, only in conversations ;))

The feature of adding the original name and colorize the whole thing is added for 'convience', because many people didn't know you could do that, you don't _have_ to use it of course...

I've turned off attach original name and instead attached the original name to the custom name using (!N).....but now it doesn't show emoticons, anyway around it:(? that's practically the only reason I don't like custom names lol

I'm afraid it's a limitation of the Custom Names.

Hack, hack, hack!

Please see "CookieRevised's reply to 'personalized name disables emoticons'":

Well there is just another problem: when you enable custom names the icons/smileys on the nicks located in the contact list stop to show (there is no way to make the option "Manage Contacts -> View Contacts By -> Display Name" default, it ever stays on "E-Mail Address". :S
The Custom Names feature will enable "View by email" in your contact list. Because of this emoticons will not be visible, the code will show instead. There is nothing you can do about as this is how Custom Names work, there is no other way. This is not a bug, but a limitation.

This is explained in the Preferences as well:

About the sorting of the contactlist:

It is MSN Messenger itself that sorts the list. If you choose "View by display name", then the list is sorted on the screen names from your contacts. If you choose "View by email" then the list is sorted on the emails.

Now, Messenger Plus! needs an unique identifier so it can change the contactperson's name to the custom name you've set. This is done by looking at their email address and this means that the contactlist needs to have "View by email" set and thus MSN Messenger sorts it on the emails, even if you see custom names...
