O.P. Autoaccept suggestion
Bonjour,

the autoaccept feature is great !
Still, here is a case where it is 1% frustrating.

Let's say you have a grandma with a pc and
a broadband connection to the internet, a
webcam and a microphone.

You set her messenger plus autoaccept to true,
so that you can invite her to a videoconference
and she doesn't have to click on anything.
(a lovely grandma, but not a computer-litterate one :-) )

Autoaccept takes the invitation, and you
can see her. But... she can't see you !

What happens here is that the conversation window
starts on her pc, but as an orange tab in the taskbar.

The suggestion here is that autoaccept would
(have an option to) actually show the
conversation window, thus achieving the last mile
of full automation: videoconference invitation
=> people see each other, no mouse involved. Voila.

Would this be easy to do ?

Why dont you start the conversation window first like: "Hey grandma!" and then invite her for the camera? I thinks its useless.. sorry if i didnt understand well.

And this would show the new conversation window on her screen ?

I'm not sure what you mean. When someone starts sending
me text messages, it usually shows first as a popup notification
and a blinking orange tab in the taskbar. Afaik she would still need
to click on one of those, the conversation window doesn't show
by itself :S (That's the whole point here, no mouse involved !).

Hope I am wrong and your trick does the job, though I'm skeptical.

RE: Autoaccept suggestion
Although I understand the idea and suggestion, I don't like it that much either. Automation is good, but there is a point where too much is too much.

If your Grandma is using the PC, she should learn what those flashing bars at the bottom mean, even if she don't understand/known much about computers. It is an absolute basic PC knowledge to know what it means and that she should click on it. If she is unable to click those flashing bars, she is, quite frankly, unable to use a computer and I wonder how she even started up the PC and do other stuff on it or even reply to a normal conversation in MSN Messenger (no offense)...

If she is unable to click on those bars because of her physical abilities, then I like to suggest that you modify her Windows a bit so the bars are bigger, the mouse is easier to use, or stuff like that. There are special options available in XP for things like that...

On Friday I'll be releasing a plugin that, among numerous things, allows you to have conversation windows restored automatically. I expect most people to have this feature turned off, but it may be useful for what you want.

Sounds like you haven't heard of living room PCs...
This PC is a videoconference box plugged into a TV set.

User starts up the PC by pushing the ON/OFF button on the front,
which is a familiar move common to any electric appliance.
MSN Messenger starts automatically with Windows; it's
never used for text-based communication.

Until I discovered Msgplus and its auto-accept feature,
we somehow managed to accept our own video requests
by... logging on her PC through VNC (!). Now the only
remaining problem is that taskbar issue,
so unfortunately we still have to use VNC
just to go and click on that taskbar tab to show.

Admittingly this example is a special case. Well,
consider this: auto-accept already allows to be watched...
Reciprocity could be useful at least for, say, bigbrother
syndrom prevention.

If you happened to play with Cu-SeeMe you may
remember it had an 100% auto-accept that brought
video windows to front -- nothing revolutionary here.

Thank you !
