O.P. Huh?  spyware noticed when installing new version of messenger plus!!
Hi. If the designers of the messenger plus program read this, please take note and try and fix the bug. Or if anyone who uses the program reads this who underdstand a bit about computer, please help:

When installing the new version of messenger plus, i got some bad spyware known as LOP!!! which is a very annoying peice of spyware and has somehow been attatched to the program. Ive had lop been removed from my system before and believe me its a nasty one. Its similare to loop wich was created some time ago apparently.

If anyone can help me on how to install messenger plus again without getting lop back again, please email me at: daniel_tsun@hotmail.com
and to the designers of the sofware, try and remove lop out of the program n re release it again.

Cheers.

Well Messenger Plus! doesn't come with any spyware at all, not even if you install it with the optional sponsor (which is adware). Did you download it from anywere other than the official Messenger Plus! website as this may be an unreliable source and the application may have been tampered with.

This is firstly not spyware, but adware. Secondly it is optional. You can choose not to install it while installing messenger plus.
To remove it see this thread Sponsor removal
And before you start posting about this sort of thing on the forum, why don't you look around on the site for anything about it. Im sure you will find a lot.

This piece of 'spyware' is in fact Adware that was installed during the installation of plus... for removal instructions please go to this website: www.mpsupport.net or this thread: Messenger Plus! Sponsor Removal Instructions

If you want to know about the sponsor program then:

Basically, the sponsor program was added to Messenger Plus! so that Patchou could have an income, as Patchou is working constantly on this Extension to make it grow, and it trully has, so while Patchou is working on this, people are accepting the sponsor software, therefore, patchou is earning a minute income... It is there for Patchou's sake...

It isn't spyware, it is adware from c2media, but with their permission, Patchou has stripped it down to a bare minimum so that people's computers aren't ruined, it is a small sponsor program...

It is completely optional and when you get to:

that screen, you simply press, I refuse...

You accidentely installed the Optional sponsor that comes with Plus!

How to solve? If you haven't used an ad/spyware removal program go to: start > control panel > add/remove programs..select Messenger Plus! 3 and choose "uninstall sponsor only" when prompted and follow instructions (make sure your internetbrowser is closed on uninstalling, from systray also).

If you did remove parts with an ad/spyware removal program:
1. Uninstall Plus! (start > controlpanel > add/remove programs..etc..) completely.
2. Reboot.
3. Reinstall Plus! with sponsor.
4. Remove sponsor only as described above.

Btw, I noticed that everyonealways say the same thing about the sponsor: "it's nasty, hard to remove, etc...". Most of those people base their assumption on what they read on other web sites. The sponsor distributed by Messenger Plus! (the C2.Lop package as described by Anti-Spyware/Adware programs) has always been removable easily from the Add/Remove Programs panel, with only one uninstall proceedure to follow. Last weekend, I had to help friends restore their computer who had some adware/spyware installed and I can tell you that thsoe who say that the Lop package is nasty have never seen this one before. It was blocking the installation of Adaware, had no uninstallation program (well yeah, it had, but they either crashed the computer or didn't work at all) spawning 7 processes, no anti-spyware program I tried was working properly on it. I had to spend 2 hours in safe mode, removing every registry entry and executables myself. All that to say that some people could use a little perspective.

Indeed, I must agree with Patchou.  Web.exe (as analyzed by Segosa) is one of the rudest Adware/Spywares out there, it downloads spyware/adware that downloads MORE spyware/adware and so on.  Patchous sponsor does none of this, and is OPTIONAL.  Tbh, If Patchou was hiding some nasty program in Plus!, it wouldnt have such a large user base and I for one wouldnt support it, but I know the truth and I (l) MsgPlus.

C2.lop [Image: threatlevel_7.jpg]
Category: Dialer
C2.lop is a porn-service telephone dialer which is installed by asking users to accept a "high speed access tool". It automatically dials toll-rate porn-services.

This spyware application exhibits the following characteristics:

Connects to Internet
If an Internet connection is not detected, this application will attempt to make a connection to the Internet. Spyware applications typically do this to download updates or track computer usage.
Installs ActiveX objects
Installs objects that implement the Microsoft ActiveX technology, allowing the spyware program and other third-party websites to load these objects in their web pages and take control of your computer.
Remains memory resident
Spyare applications that remain memory resident can often detect their removal and re-create themselves, making them difficult to remove.
Stealthy
Stealthy programs hide themselves from users by hiding their program files from the computer processes list, creating no visible icons in the taskbar, and creating no uninstall links.

thats how my antispyware defines c2.lop they really make it sound dangerous lol

RE: spyware noticed when installing new version of messenger plus!!
Please do more research from these forums before posting what you think you have found out.

C2Media itself can be harmful. BUT the Optional Sponsor included in Plus! is nothing compared to what they normally package. Because Patchou cares about his users he has requested that C2Media remove any adult content, and tracking information, and making harmful system changes. Being a beta tester of Plus! we need to test Plus! in various conditions with and without the sponsor. I can tell you that the sponsor in Plus!2 would go as far as changing the network name on your computer. This has since been removed and all the sponsor does is the following.
  • Add desktop items
  • Add links in favorites
  • Change Internet Explorer start page
  • Add a search bar into Internet Explorer

I urge you to do more research before trying to post what you think you have found about a program.
