O.P. Huh?  home networking?????
i am planning on buying a wireless router, form maybe d-link or linksys

and whati want to know is if my 2 computers or connected to the router,does that mean i can access files that are on the second computer? and vice-versa?

simply stated. yes.

long answer (not by much)
you need to have the computer set up similarily, with the same workgroup name. i'm prettu sure windows has a built in network configuration wizard.

:| mine was a right...actually im not getting into that. i had to get my uncle (does networking for a college nearby hes the admin technician guy) to sort it out......had to change a number in the registry from a 0 to a 1 then it started to share files, lololol think it was LSA somethings(the registry)...

You can share files in a shared networkmap (drag&drop), but you can't acces system files and maps of the other pc.
