RE: Offline Messenger for MSN Messenger has been released!
Sounds great, just one but/question:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cool... And how do I know when I receive an OM?
The bot that has a message for you will add you to his list, so he knows when you sign in. Once you sign in, you should allow the bot into your list. You don't have to add him to your list if you don't want to, you just have to allow the bot to see your status and send you messages. Once you've done this, the bot will contact you, delivering all your messages.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lots of people do not accept people they don't know on their list anymore (me included), is the name of the bot that clear that the person you send a message to will recognize this?

The addy to the bot is offmsgr1@hotmail.com (the number can vary in the addy depending what number the bot is)

And the nickname it has is - Offline Messenger [insert the number of the bot here]

Its pretty clear, although i do get what you mean by how some people don't accept people they don't know to their contact list...

but i guess once you inform your contacts about the bot, and they add it to their list / allow it to see their status, there won't be any confusion...

jeez, if i wasnt banned from msnfanatic i would report a couple of things...

1. after you send a the '.menu' command, and the menu is recieved. for a while after, it gives the user is typing message..

2. well here is the story, i sent a message to my other email, so i used polygamy, and logged in

What Happened:
logged in
wait...
offline messenger bot added me
wait....
beep
messenger closed by itself..
open again in polygamy
sign in
nothing happens no track of message..
so on my other account i send myself a message again.
(by this time im using .menu on the 2nd account)
and i get the 2nd message..
no track of the first

Yay... So basically this is e-mail being reinvented, only this is slightly more complex/unreliable because you're depending on some sort of Messenger bot to be online to deliver the message instead of the recipient's ISP (providing that he's using an ISP e-mail address)... *-) Seriously, what's so horrible about leaving e-mails for offline contacts? If the problem is waiting for Hotmail to load, then get a pop3 account...

I never had any problems with this before it was released to the public...but last night mwe99 tryed to send me a message and it didn't work...

It may be because the some Mirrors are at full capacity :undecided:

You'll just have to be patient for now, noroom and psyko are doing the best they can :)

O.P. RE: Offline Messenger for MSN Messenger has been released!
The first problem we encountered is that the response was so huge that the protocol started to mess up and we were getting commands in a different order. Also, MSN has a limit for the allow list, even though it's not a fixed value (like the contact list, limit set at 300). The allow list will start acting weird and returning errors at about 1000 contacts.
Of course we had no idea this would happen when we tried it with our beta testing team that consited of 20 people.

About the typing notification: It's there to prevent the session from being closed if you don't say anything for a few minutes. I put it there because if you were to say something to the bot after a certain idle time, the session would be restarted and the bot would send you the welcome message again. Some people found this very annoying and thought the TypingNotification was a cool workaround.

About people not allowing OM on their lists: Well, it's their coice. If they do not wish to use the service, they can block the bots.

About some messages not being delivered: We are running heavy debugging on both, the bot and the protocol engine. Some messages have gotten lost in the middle. We moved the project to a debugging server too, so that made the bots lose a fair amount of messages.

About the service not being reliable: It's a beta. You don't have to use it if you don't want to. Email being reinvented? We like to call it an alternative to email. Imagine a world without alternatives. Not pretty. :)

To update everyone - Offmsgr1 - 3 @hotmail.com are dead. Something f*cked them up and now we have to close them. Please visit http://www.offlinemessenger.com to find another mirror to use. Make sure to use the mirror with the lowest amount of load, thank you! :)
