O.P. Chat log encryption error
I have just tried to use chnage the encryption password for my chat logs but whenever i change the password only the chat logs on the "My chat logs folder" have thier password changed and any other logs (from previous months) that are contained in different folders within "my chat logs" do not have thier passwords changed! This would not be a great problem but i now do not have access to the chat logs that arent chnaged because no matter what password i enter it is always saying "password incorrect".

Why is messenger plus just changing the passwords of the chatlogs in root of "My Chat logs" and not any of its sub directories?

Before you ask; yes i do click yes to the "encrypt/reencrypt" box!

Any help would be great as i would like access to my chat logs!

edit: (upon firther investigation it is not actually changing all the chat logs in the root of "my chat logs")

yes you can, but it will take some effort and manual labor...

First of all make sure you are set as "appear offline" in MSN Messenger, so nobody can start talking with you and interfear with the chatlogs.

Then start by moving every file out of your current logdirectory to some place else, just to store them while we are going to use the logdirectory.

After the chatlogdirectory is cleared, you can start moving the files which are in your archived directories to this logdirectory (do this directory per directory).

Then choose the option in Plus! to encrypt your chatlogs. It will (re)encrypt all the files there...

After this, move the files (now encrypted) back to were they were in the archive directory...

And repeat this process for each archive directory you have.

The same scheme/work method can be used to re-encrypt your current chatlogs with a new password. Of course, you don't need to move anything in that case, because the files you want to re-encrypt are already in your current chatlog directory...

While i can find no fault with what you have told me and while I see messenger plus as an amazing and fantastic plug in it clearly isnt doing what it says it is doing "encrypting all your conversations" if i have to use the method u mentioned above. Is there no way this can maybe be looked at and fixed?

Undecided  RE: Chat log encryption error
I've also experienced the same problem on my side...
I think after installing the new version 3.52.130 (April 13th) if fixed the problem?!?

But then again... I'm not sure anymore?!

I think it's worth the try... Or simply re-installing it?

I'm also experiencing problems when I close a chat window...

Getting some error message saying the there is an invalid character in the log file?!?

I've gone through the file and found that the character the error is referring to is the letter 'a'

Simply the letter: a
?????

This is one exemple... but I do get this often when closing chat logs of shutting down MSN (which closes the chats windows obviously!)

Can anyone tell me what's going on or if this only happens to me?!?

Thanx...
