When I restart my computer and I'm on the login screen, the mouse does not work.

Although when I shutdown my pc and start it up again, it does.

This has been happening for a while now and is very annoying because I can't restart my pc. I have to shutdown and start it up again.

Can anyone help? Thanks.

how is it connected to the computer? through a USB port?

if so, than your problem is not just something that happens to you .
i have the same problem. one way to go about it, is simply - unplug and plug the mouse back in, when you have restarted the computer.

It's not UBB, it plugs into the mouse port.
I restarted the pc. Mouse didn't work. Pulled it out, put it back in. Still didn't work

It's just a normal scroll mouse. Didn't come with any drivers, cd's etc.
I don't have a spare mouse handy at the moment.

never unplug a PS/2 mouse from the mouse port. u shouldn't be plugging your PS/2 mouse in and out with your power on. (in most cases) it is not meant to be hot swappable. so i suggest to you - don't do it again

in the case that this is a PS/2 mouse. i am confused. this to my knowledge should not be happening.

i can only suggest try any or all of the following:
1. make sure your mouse connects well to the port. (although i assume it does)

2. see if there is no damage to the wire, the plug, or the port itself. i'm assuming the mouse or the mouse port is damaged somehow at this point. though i'm confused why turning off and on the computer gets it to work again (when restarting does not)

3. visit the mouse manufacturer's web site to see whether a software update is available.

4. try removing and reinstalling your old driver.
go to control panel>mouse>hardware tab>properties>driver tab > uninstall driver

restart your computer

your mouse should be automatically detected by windows and display a wizard that will help you install the driver for it.

in the worst case u'll have to install a new driver manually
press CTRL+ESC to open Start, highlight and expand All Programs, and then enter Windows Update.

Edit: when i was writing this i didn't see there were new responses to your problem. (so in the case that it is still not working follow my suggestions)

I think its working now. I uninstalled the mouse, restarted the pc (mouse worked). Then it said "you have changed your hardware settigs" or something like that. "you must reactivate windows".

Don't no why, but I done that fine.

Then it seemed to be working.

I'll restart the pc once more and tell you if its working.

Edit: Ok, I restarted my pc and the mouse doesn't work, lol. It's not working at the moment but I still managed to edit this post I'll just restart my pc again.
