Its possible to hide emoticons in contact list?

O.P. Its possible to hide emoticons in contact list?
I think that the cause of the slow scroll in my contact list, i would prefer to watch the names like in msn 6.2, not showing the emoticons in the nicknames. Is that possible?

Go to the plus preferences > contact list > custom names > check the box before "enable custom contact names"
I think this should work :)
