Argh, all my custom emotions/smilies have stopped working. The 'words' or shortcuts (like ":)" ) to make them have stopped making them and they do not appear in the "My Emotions".

Are msn 6 custom smilies incompatible with msn 7 ones?
Why would they disappear?

The strange thing is they still appear in the plus! quick smilie panel..

Has anybody had this problem and if they recovered their smilies how?

I think the problem is that you simply unchecked the boxes to make the emoticons appear in your conversation.. to re-enable it, plz follow these instructions :

Open your msn messenger contacts window

Click on your nickname, then select Personal Settings,

Go In "Messages"

Check the boxes saying : "Show Emoticons" & "Show Custom Emoticons"

have you tried uninstalling msn messenger? this is the only thing I can suggest you of doing for the moment, I'm currently searching for other threads like that.. Ill edit my post if I find anything.

Do you mean uninstall 6.2, because I never uninstalled it - I installed msn 7 over the top... or do you mean uninstall 7 and reinstall it?

I hope they haven't been lost - if Messenger Plus! can still read them/see them and display them, they should be somewhere.

Maybe I should restart msn, I'll try this now.

6.2 should not be on your computer anymore, it should have been upgraded to 7.0.0777 (the final msn version of 7)

now try restarting it.. if it doesnt work try uninstalling it and re-installing it..

Yes, its only my emotions that seem to have disappeared.

Just earlier I installed 7 over 6.2.

Did you upgrade to the latest Plus! version (3.52.130)?

Also do as lp15 said in his first post, if that aint working try restarting MSNM..and as last resort run the MSNM installer again and choose "repair".

Chances are the emoticons are corrupt. Yes, they're still present on your system as .dat files, but re-adding them would probably only result in your emoticons corrupting again.

Unfortunately I believe the only solution is to re-acquire the emoticons (not the ones on your system) from another source (ex. download them) and re-add them. That's the only way you can lower the chances of the emoticons corrupting again.

I could be wrong, but if the solutions already posted haven't worked then it's likely your emoticons are corrupted.

Yup.

I think I'll stick with mSn 6.2. I've uninstalled 7 and reinstalled 6.2, however, Msn is preventing me from signing in and claiming that I 'must' update.

How can I get around this ?

I'll remake my smillie collection, thanks for the support everyone!
