For some reason I am having problems receiving files from people on MSN, but also sending files (to and from) certain people. One person I can't even see their MSN avatar, it just comes up with the default MSN symbol. I am using Msg Plus and A-Patch but these can't be the problem as I've tried uninstalling both and I still have the problem.

Sometimes messages don't get through either, they don't bounce back - just get lost in cyberspace.

Is MSN 7 just totally shit or is something going on?

MSN 7 blocks certain file types being sent

Zip the file then send it, this should help.

To find out about how/why of blocked extensions read this post

Try a clean install of MSNM:
- uninstall MSNM
- reboot
- remove all folders pointing towards MSNM
- reinstall MSNM

After that you can unblock the blocked extensions again.

Possibilities to unblock are:
File Extension Unblocker
A-Patch 
Mess Patch 7.0.0777
SPNG (Msg Plus! required)

Please note that these filetypes were blocked in order to counter the propagation of viruses over the .NET Messenger network. Always be wary of any file you receive!

Advice: Scan the files you receive with a good AV program (also make sure the virusdefinitions are up to date) after receiving first. You can set MSNM to do that: tools > options > file transfer.

I know about that file sending problem and am using the patch to get round that.

The problem I have is a person will send me a file, and NOTHING will show up, not the zip file, or ANYTHING.

If I send a file to the person on my MSN list whose avatar won't refresh, they see the file but the ACCEPT command won't work on it.

Sounds like a Firewall issue, have you configured your Firewall for file sharing on MSN Messenger?

not a firewall issue... it has happened to me if one of the sides has stuffplug ng & the other one doesn't.

is that the case?

Nope we are not using stuff plug, both are using A-Patch though.
