if you mean wireless like a mobile phone, then no. However 3g phones can go up to 348kbps IIRC.

They make small ADSL modems that could easily fit in your pocket, with a few cables tied around them. If it was plugged into an ADSL activated phone line (and it has to be ADSL activated) it could work. A few problems are;
1) Phone lines can't give enough power to your modem, a USB connection from a laptop or other device would.
2) There can't be another ADSL modem active on the phone line
3) Usually if someone has an ADSL line, they will already have a modem and\or router in their house.

Up to 54Mbps on a Wi-Fi now, with 802.11g. There may even be more.
But you're also right about the 3G phones: nowhere near Mbps yet. Maybe 4G phones will be...

there will be no 4g phones! the successor is called HSDPA (High-Speed Data Packet Access) it operates at 1.8mbit/s
ohh and it wasn't on a mob it was some  card that operates on a different band that normall handsets do (a friend that works for  a telco company told me about it) and it was 1mbit/s
ok now i've got what u mean Anubis thanks!

ADSL Operates at a much higher frequency then the actual phone service traveles on. When they get to the local box, the internet frequency is seperated from the voice frequency and its sent to your ISP. So, if your line isnt configured to be split like in that example, you will have no internet acesability on that line and you cannot use a modem with it. The exact same goes for cable modems.

HSDPA is just an extension of the 3G mobile system, rather like GPRS was an extension of GSM/2G, it will allow faster downloading speeds, and new handsets will be made, but it will not be a successor to 3G, just an extra on new 3G phones.

Also, all 3G and 4G mean are 'third-generation' and 'fourth-generation'. It's not so much a particular technology, just a level of advancement and sophistication.
For instance, take the XBox 360 and the PS3. They use very different technologies (PowerPC vs Cell), but they are both of the same generation of consoles.
However, the 'generation' isn't the important thing: it's whether the device meets your needs.
