One of my friends is having this problem.. The picture speaks for itself.
Programs are running, but their corresponding buttons that are supposed to appear in the taskbar are hidden. Any suggestions?
Btw, feel free to enlighten me on how to shrink this picture without having to alter the source file.

This happened to a computer I was fixing a while ago. Due to the other problems with the computer (other that the one you specify), I just reinstalled Windows.
Try to get your friend to kill explorer.exe in Task Manager, then restart it by using File | New Task (Run)...
