O.P. installing fonts
my dad wants to install a font on his secutary's computer, but every time he tries to copy the font over to the Windows/Fonts file, he gets an error message saying that the file is currently in use.

The same error message appears if he goes through File > Install New Font.

Any Ideas?

RE: installing fonts
You could try Start> Control Panel> Fonts and try to put it in from there.

Also try downloading directly to the Fonts folder

Control Panel -> Fonts.

Then on that page, click
File-> Install Font

pretty straight forward from there :)

no it wont. Fonts can't simply be copied. Fonts need to be installed like normal programs.

(PS: and even then, why dragging it to the desktop first if you're going to drag it to your font folder? doesn't make much sense though; drag it to your font folder directly then.)

no i tried..like i download a font and then from the downloaded folder i drag it right into the font folder..and then windows wont recognize it as it occurs to be like a file that cant be open and when i have dragged the font to desktop the pic changes right away showing its a font file and then i drag it to the font folder and then it install perfectly

then you're in luck and found a way to automatically install the font. Note that this action wouldn't only have copied the file, but also installed it. In other words, if saralk reports that he can't install the font, this action wont work either, because what it did was installing the font...

On another note: it most likely worked because when you dragged it directly the file was still in use by your download program and couldn't be accessed. By copying it to another location (note "any" location, this doesn't need to be your desktop, since the desktop is nothing more then another directory) it could physically copy the file because it was no longer handled by your downloader and thus freed up.

I just drag my fonts from the location, into the fonts folder and they install. then i delete the origional file.

WRONG cookie

fonts can just be copied into the fonts folder,

anyone knows this

i recently did this with a font to make Hylian text appear on webpages, do you want me to post the directions that it had in the readme as proof that copying works?

btw... most fonts come zipped, did you unpack it first :|
