O.P. nuked internet connection sharing...
I think I must have deleted the ICS service when I was obliterating a virus my darling mother/sister managed to get on there. I need it back and there are no downloads on the internet, so I need someone to locate their ICS service file (you can find it by typing 'msconfig.msc' in the run bar, then finding the ICS service, right clicking, selecting properties and then looking at the 'path to the executable' box). Could someone please post it because I've been banging my head on the desk all day wondering why pcs on my network don't connect to the internet anymore.

Its odd that ms don't have a download for it really...

edit: ok, it's not really that simple. I seems all of the network services use svchost.exe, which I have, but the service itself has been deleted without the file. Does anyone know how to create new services or even restore deleted ones?

Ok i'm confused.

You deleted the 'Internet Connection Service' by accident and you want someone to upload it here?

I tried following your instructions but got no where.

I typed in msconfig.msc but it said it didn't exist, so I typed in msconfig and that worked.

I then went to Services tab, but couldn't find anything that said ICS?

ooops:$ I meant to say services.msc

but I found out that that won't help anymore because the program the ICS uses hasn't been deleted, but the service that allows ICS to work has been deleted from the list in 'services.msc'. This isn't very helpful as it means I can't share my internet connection with my laptop and another desktop pc.

Can you use 'Add/Remove Windows Components' to add it back in? (just an idea)

I'm afraid I've already tried that and it doesn't work. I don't think anyone else has every had this problem because google comes up with nothing. Also, the virus probably deleted it and not me because that service runs the windows firewall aswell. I tried turning it on (I have a better firewall anyway) and it didn't work, so I know that this is the problem.

I would reinstall Windows. If that fails, buy a router or format, depending on what you consider more valuable.

Well I've found out SP2 has an updated version of this service, so I shall install SP2 when I get the chance. It seems to be the only way without reformatting/installing etc.

First, use services.msc instead of msconfig.exe

Second, try this:

goto Start, goto Run, type "NET START SharedAccess"

and paste the error.

The dos window opens and then closes immediately. I'm pretty sure this means it's just not there...

Try Start > Run ..., type cmd and press OK, then enter "NET START SharedAccess" in the command interpreter.
