If you do use SmileyCentral try uninstalling it, Click here for a guide on how to uninstall SmileyCentral

If you use StuffPlug-NG download and install the latest version from www.stuffplug.com.

If you have previously used the old handwriting plugin, which is no longer needed for handwriting, delete the plugin from plugins folder C:\Program Files\MessengerPlus! 3\Plugins and C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! 2\Plugins if you have both folders and delete handwriting.dll. If you have a custom installation directory of Messenger Plus delete handwriting.dll from the plugin folder there.

If that doesn't work try uninstalling Messenger Plus (do not delete it do a proper uninstall from the control panel) and see if Messenger works without Messenger Plus.

Also try uninstalling MSN Messenger (Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs > MSN Messenger) and Plus then reinstalling.

If that doesn't work;
1) Run this Application (click here to download)
2) Select your Passport email address
3) Change the Plugin setting to No
4) Click Change
5) Click Exit
6) Restart your computer

Please try all of the above, and if they all don't work please reply. But please would you try all of them (some may not apply but I made a note of those that do not) before asking for further assistance in this matter.
