O.P. Messenger causes Windows2000 reboot - HELP!
Messenger (v7.0.0813) causes Windows 2000 Pro (v5.0.2195 SP4) to reboot every time Messenger attempts to cummunicate over the internet.
Internet access using IE (v6.0.2800.1106) is ok without Messenger running.
Running Messenger without internet access available allows access to functions that do not rely on one to be signed in. Reboot occurs as soon as internet connection is active when Messenger is running.
Never had any problem running Messenger under Windows 98se.
If anyone posts a response here please also email me at trevor_austin@ntlworld.com
thanks

Start > Control Panel > System > Advanced > Settings for Startup and Recovery

Uncheck the box that says Automatically Restart and click Ok.

Now sign onto MSN. Your computer should Blue Screen giving you a Stop error code saying 0x000000CD or something like that just do a hard reboot after writing down the stop error code and post it here.

RE: Messenger causes Windows2000 reboot - HELP!
I have had these crashes too, but only when I tried to make wireless internet connection. These blue screens are weird, most common the actual origin of the problem is hard to find out, it could be an old or corrupted driver, but mostlikely you have a hardware failure, that somehow windows detects while, in your case, activating msn. (At mine, it was detected while activating the wifi driver). Then where is the failure? We don't know. That's why Acer is probably slamming a new motherbord into my computer, or swap the whole device. (It's still getting repaired of it |-) ) Probably you have had these crashes before (sporadic) while msn still worked... it goes from bad to worse. Try formatting your computer, that's the easiest way to find out, if it still crashes while using msn then, you'll have to send it to your computer back to the manufacturer.
