O.P. Huh?  Proxy settings
Can someone explain to me what this is exactly? Is it for security like a firewall and router?

What's the difference in direct connection to the internet and proxy?

Thanks

RE: Proxy settings
Connected via. a proxy is safer afaik, as you are connected through a secure port on a server.

RE: Proxy settings
A proxy is an intermediary computer between you and the internet

You ------- proxy ------ internet

If you want to download something, tell the proxy the proxy downloads it and forwards it to you.

So, this way, your ip is (kinda) more hidden and some things can be faster because a proxy also caches websites, and can send them directly to you.
