O.P. Come-back Message window gets lost if connection interrupted
Messenger Plus! version 3.54.132
MSN Messenger version 7.0.0816
Windows version 5.1 (XP) build 2600.xpclnt_qfe.040918-1927

Come-back Message window gets lost if connection interrupted.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Sign into MSN.
  • Find an offline contact and open their "comeback message" window.
  • Begin writing a message (optional).
  • Unplug your router, MSN will be disconnected, the comeback message window will be automatically closed.
  • Reconnect your router, MSN will be reconnected.
  • Try to re-open the comeback message window for that same contact.

Expected: the window should open.

Actual: the window will not re-open for the same contact after connection is re-established.

Suggested cause: Plus thinks the window is still open from before the disconnection, having possibly not 'told itself' that the window was automatically closed when connection was lost. It will not open two identical come-back message windows, so the window cannot be opened.

This may also occur when just disconnecting MSN in the usual way, but it occured for me by network interruption, so... thought that's how I should write my reproducible steps.

:D

Heh. K, must just be unexpected connection drops then.

Which makes sense actually, as presumably much of the 'cleanup code' is within the routines that fire when the user chooses to sign out, rather than when it is detected that the connection has indeed been lost, either through signing out or by unluck. :)

Thank you for tyhe detailed report, that's helpful.

I tried to reproduce the problem with no luck... can you always reproduce it yourself? the comeback-msg window is not supposed to hide when you signout or lose your connection.

I'm unable to kill my connection at the moment as there's some sensitive experiments being run over the net but as soon as I get another opportunity to do so I will run some more extensive tests.
