I am thinking about getting an AMD Athlon 64 Processor.  Is any Athlon 64 good, Is the difference huge in like a cheap one and an expensive one?  And also I am wondering how good is an Athlon 64 FX-57??

im running a AMD64 Athlon 3500+  . i dont know how well the sampron 64Bits are but my guess they'd be good enough

which country do u live in? if u live in australia i hav some info about it. AMD Athlon 64 3500+ is a really good board at around $400 (this was a couple of months ago, like all prices listed) or a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ which is about $240. Sempron isnt that good if u want performance but itll do the job if u just want to use the pc for basic home use (like surfing the net, checking emails, occasionally playing games, etc). If ur getting a new mother board get the Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 at around $190 and if ur getting a new graphics card get the Xpertvision GeForce 6600GT at around $270. This information came out of a magazine which i buy and these are really good components if u want a value system. Also with the processors if u want a good upgrade path for the future, whatever AMD processor u get make surre it is Socket 939.

i got my AMD Athlon 64 3200+ for $310 (AUD). i think it works better than my Pentium 4 2.0GHz. ive read an article where they test low and high end Intel and AMD processors and the Athlon 64's came out on top CLEARLY. i'd definately reccommend gettin one

Ive got an AMD Athlon 64 3500+ and i couldnt be hapier.

FX-57 is very good, its awesome if you have the money go for it.

Dont get an intel one they are expensive and they do what pisses me off the most in a company, they abuse their dominant position on the market.

and good on AMD for standing up and suing them!! it's about time, AMD are so much better than Intel

Yeah I think I am going to get a 64 3700+ at 2.20 GHz.  But right now I have an Athlon xp 3200+ at 2.20 GHz, since there is like no change in the GHz, would it be any faster?  Or will it be a lot faster because it is a 64?

I have a an AMD 64 bit athlon 3400+ processor, i cant remember having anything different, so i cant comment on how good it is, but iv read around and been told that is far better then the intel range.....

Cheap Athlon64 would be the 2800+ while expensive would be the single core FX-57 or the Dual Core X2-4800.

Current cores are:

Venice (Former Winchester) - 512KB Cache
San Diego (Former Clawhammer) - 1MB Cache
Manchester - 512KB Cache  (this is X2 so 512KB each core)
Toledo - 1MB Cache  (this is X2 so 1MB each core)


Currently cheap Single Core reccomendation would be the Athlon64 3500+ (Venice/Winchester) on Socket 939 & the Athlon64 3200+ (newcastle) on Socket 754.

High end you'd be looking at any of the X2 line (recommended for future proofing and multitasking) or the FX-55 (or 57) which are Single Core.

X2 3800 is the best bang for your buck at the moment.

It depends on your budget to be honest, and what do you do.  General word/email, why spend 1200$ on a Processer, just buy a 3200+ AMD64 and it'll be enough.
