O.P. Burner Issues on new computer
I have just purchased a new compaq laptop and have installed all the programs that i use for dvd burning on my desktop computer. (ie alcohol 120%, dvd decrypter, dvd shink, and nero that came with my other burner etc) however every time i try to burn something its fails during the process with a write error. I have already made coasters out of several cds, dvds. Does anyone know why this would be happening. The burner is same brand (pioneer) as my other one but i have never had these problems before. I have been having problems with all the programs. could it be a problem with the drive?
Thanks

(a) well.... if you're not getting the things you download off of an official site or place.... they could have some sort of protection against copying it.

Anyway anyone got any ideas on the problem?

RE: Burner Issues on new computer
I have had issues with a pioneer dvd burner.... it always said buffer overloaded <- or something similar, and i was never able to burn a dvd or cd, compaq support told me they didnt know what to do (even tho i bought it with the dvd) so i just bought a new one  :S
Why dont u try roxio? it came preinstalled with the laptop <it came with mine>

Try seeing of there is a firmware upgrade for your DVD drive.

No firmware updates from what i can see. there is no newer drivers either.
I tested burning some data onto a cd with windows built in burner function and it still had a write error so now i know its not a problem with the software i was using.
Anyone got any other ideas. Its a brand new computer. Im thinking about ringing up compaq support but i dont think they will be able to help me much. I have already turned 3cds and 2dvds into coasters. i might have to return it?

BIOS has nothing to do with a burner not working correctly.

How about instead of linking to HP, we link to Pioneer:

Buffer underrun?

Simple solutions:
1. Burn at a slower speed.
2. Close any programs you're not using.

Read: http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintasksstd/tutorials/tutorial1/

Now, maybe we can actually get to the problem:

1. Have you tried to use any other types of CD/DVD media? Maybe you somehow have a bad batch?
2. Noticed any problems reading CDs?
3. What is the exact error message a program like Nero gives (try writing onto a CD-RW which can be blanked later)
4. Based off above, are you able to blank/erase rewritable discs using the Nero tools or some other program?

Thanks Chris,
The burner is a Pioneer DVDRW DVR-K15

I have tried to use as many different types of blank media i had cos i too thought that could be what was wrong. I have tried TDK, Imation, Datastream, Verbatim and all still the same problem.

Reading cd's has been fine. I have installed programs, played games, watched dvds.

Nero error is:
#22 CDR -1135 File Writer.cpp, Line 311
Write Error

Alcohol 120% error is:
(D:) PIONEER DVDRW   DVR-K15(1:0) - [Write ERROR], LBA: 47104, Length: 16
    S:KEY - 03/0C/00  - "Write Error"

I have even tried the built in Windows Burner and still got the same issues.

Originally i could erase cds/dvds fine but lately (as in the last 2 days) i have been unable to do that too.

Thanks heaps for your help and suggestions with this frustrating problem.
Daniel
