Im posting this problem on behalf of TylerG (So he doesnt get banned )

He is trying to install Halo: Combat Evolved on his PC, and the installer installs it successfully but after he runs the game an error dialog pops up saying the hardware failed to initialise Direct3D and it tells him to run DXDIAG but that tells him everything is running properly.

Any suggestions on to why this might be?

The graphics card is a ATI Radeon 9550.

make sure that you dont have anything that is controlling or locking your Refresh rates. I've also heard people having to roll back their drivers.

Tell him to make sure that hardware acceleration is enabled in the Display Properties dialog (right click desktop>settings>advanced>troubleshoot)

I just set this to None, and came up with "A problem occured initialising DirectDraw" <snip> "Please run DXDIAG", so if it isnt already, set it to Full

It is set to full.  So it didn't help at all.

try using my halo cd and see if that works later.

I fixed it, but for some reason I can't join with dotNorma

same here ...i can never find his servers

Any ideas why we can't connectwith dotNorma?
