say i want to share my music folder on my home network... i set it to share, but i have folders for artists, and for some reason i have to manually goto them and select to share them also.

is there a way to share my music and all the folders in that get shared?

You've got:

+ Music
|
> Artist

> Artist

If thats the way it's setup just share the "Music Folder" and it should share everything underneath it.

something like that... i did but then when on my other computer i tried to access it, it comes up 'access denied.... blah blah blah'

make sure that all file sharing is enabled.

I find its a firewall that will block the sharing folders. Check for that. On zonealarm i know you have to make a access area.
