I was wondering if I was to purchase a Microsoft Media Center remote control for my computer would its reciever be able to double as an Infrared device on my computer so it could transmit and recieve data from devices such as a mobile phone as well as the remote itself?

I'm not sure if a "reciever" would be able to transmit Infrared waves to a device such as a mobile phone to send data or just recieve IR waves.
(Yes, I know it being a reciever it may only recieve. Yet I thought this term may only because you can't send IR waves back to a remote control as there is no point).
