Hello.

It seems that my 256MB MP3 USB player's HDD is having a problem...
I dont know, it could be because I left it in in the USB port for many hours, or because I usually don't remove it with the "Safely Remove Drive" option...

I plugged it in to put a song in it, and I found that almost all of my MP3s were missing (some of them were still there)
Both mp3 player and windows were saying that I had 26MB free (which would be true, if I could see the files...)

So, I chkdsked my mp3 player, and this is what happened:

I chose to recover everything that was possible to recover.
It seems that my MP3s were recovered, but very many files (2466 to be exact) were created that had size of 4KB.

I think about formatting the MP3 Player and recopying the MP3s again (I was lucky, and I copied my MP3s recently to my computer), however, I don't know with what file system I should format the MP3 player...
It came formatted with FAT16, but I can also formatted with FAT32.
I don't know if I should format it with FAT32, because I don't know if the MP3 player knows how to read that file system...

So, with what filesystem should I format the MP3 Player?

If it came formtted as FAT16 use FAT16.

Or if you really want to try FAT32 and if it doesn't work then use FAT16.

Its not hard   Did this really even need a thread?

Maybe there would be something I would need to know before doing this?
Anyway, Im going to format it to FAT16...

Edit: I formatted it, and it works fine

At 256MB, it won't be an HDD. It'll be some sort of flash memory chip, like pen drives.
At 256MB, the benefits of FAT32 are negligible over FAT16: the only real benefit I can remember right now is the ability to use partitions larger than 2GB.

Anyway, if it came as FAT16, do FAT16.
