O.P. Crashing on Signin
Hi
I just started having this problem with MSN 7.5, for some reason, as soon as the sign is completed MSN will just crash out.

Windows Messenger works fine. but no lock with MSN.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but no luck there either, might need to clear up the registry perhaps.

I also removed msg plus to ensure that wasnt part of the problem, no luck with that either..

anyone with any advice on this ?

thanks
Aquitaine

Do you have a firewall  or NIS or similiar that may be interferring with Sign in..disable it if u do then try and sign in..?

Also make sure you downloaded MSN from microsofts site..
http://messenger.ninemsn.com.au/Xp/Default.aspx
& messenger Plus from this site ..

cant be that because windows messenger works fine as does Gaim.
Re: http://messenger.ninemsn.com.au/Xp/Default.aspx

that redirects to
http://messenger.msn.com/xp/downloadx.aspx?mkt=en-au

so its all the same..

no luck as yet : (

Have you dowloaded any other programs lately ..and did you try the firewall idea ..
.Windows Messenger and MSN messenger are two different programs..your firewall(if you have one )..may be blocking one ..and allowing the other due to how your settings are configured,...

.and what exactly happens ..when you say crashes ..so you sign in and then what happens..it just dissapears?your computer turns of..do you get an error message ?..

tried putting the xp firewall off, no difference.
cant say ive installed anything new, i had a net connection problem recenltly and its been acting this way since.

from the look of it, it seems to log into msn, and when its trying to display the user list, it crashes.

thanks

RE: Crashing on Signin
i'm having the same problem
windows messenger does work
windows live messenger 8.0.0566 works
they both work perfectly
even my other accounts work perfectly on the 7.5
it's really weird and i'm not going to delete all my accoun's specific settings on application data as that would kill all my emoticons
if you know of any back up app then i could try it

(i use wlm and 7.5 together by using the poligamy+folder rename thing, but it has nothing to do as the problem started even before i installed 8 onto this pc)

mine does exactly the same, even plus's desktop contacts appear, then it signs out, showing the connection to the .net service has been lost reconnecting in 3 2 1 bla bla, instead of just crashing!

thx for any help!! :D
