i know that Darik's Bute and Nuke is powerful software and can completely delete EVERYTHING on hard drives.
but i was wondering 2 questions from people who may know more about it or have used it ...

1)
Does it completley delete EVERYTING - un tracable? (even by police for instance as they can race some things) but does this stop that from being able to happen?

and

2)
Does it give you the option to nuke just 1 hard drive or does it automatically nuke them all?

thanks for any help :)

I doubt it'll stop police being able to get little bits which all they need, if they know what thee looking for.
As they leave very small traces such as binarys etc which could even stay there after 100's of formats...

EDIT: Nope it isnt in the fact ;)

Nothing is untrackable, best way would be buring your harddrive. You see your harddrive just does not contain 0's and 1's and then samples them all together to get what we see but also leaves some data on the surfgace and with some advanced equipment can be trackable.

However, only the police would have tools like this so if your selling your harddrive it should be ok ;)

The police would not do it, it would cost way too much and take way too much time. They ever only really care for serious crimes such as pedofilla and huge fraud. :P

thats what i tried to say
but he thinks his "mates" can do it cos they can put a PC together and switch it on (more than my dad can do!)

i was sure i was right and tha A)only police can do it
and B) they wouldnt do it anyway!

but i would still like to remove as much data as possable on my next format anyway which is my other reason of looking into DBaN

There is a mode that will make sure the data is only readable by very advanced hardware and specialists.

And it won't delete everything automatically, it will give you a GUI from where you can choose which Hard Drives/Partitions to delete, which Algorithm it uses to delete everything and how many times it has to run.
