RE: Help!, my computer died
Define "working" please.
When you say Windows doesn't load at all, do you still see the POST screen (ram check, drive check, stuff like that)?

Working = talking on msn, and suring msghelp.net, thats all
all i see is the asus logo my mother board puts on, then nothing, just goes black
and my computer has never wanted to boot in safe mode, when i press F8 on start up, all i get is a blue screen asking me which drive to boot from

Then you press the wrong key for safe mode. try f12...
for some weird reason, this sounds to me like a HDD failure... dunno if its correct tho...

No hes not pressing the incorrect button hes pressing it too early. F8 on an Asus motherboard is the hotkey to select which drive you wish to boot from.
First thing you want to do is go into your BIOS tapping F1 or Delete (should say at the bottom). From here you want to go to Boot > Then something that says Boot Settings Configuration > Set Full Screen Logo to Disabled. (It may not be the same version so look in the BIOS for Full Screen Logo and disable it.) Please Escape ; Then go to Exit and save settings and exit.
This will remove the asus logo and show you post. If you get any errors reply with them. Alternatly you can press Escape at the logo to remove it temporarily.

Ok this is a totally seperate error message. Do you know if you have an NTFS partition on your computer or is the main drive where Windows is installed Fat32?

RE: Help!, my computer died
Defective sectors/files.
Form 1: Repair the files already on the computer.
1) Put the Windows CD on the computer and make it boot from the disc
2) Let all the files to load and when the computer tells you to press ENTER to install Windows or R to repair (just after it finishes loading up the files) press R
3) You will now have a black screen, type "CHKDSK /F" and press ENTER
4) The files should be fixed now.
If this doesnt work or want the long way and better way:
Form 2: Reinstall and repair the current installation replacing all the system files
1) put the Windows CD on the computer
2) restart the computer and make it boot from the CD drive.
3) Let everything load until it search for current windows installations on the drives. After this you will see one installation, press R to enter repair mode.
4) It will look like a new reinstallation on windows, but the files are just being repaired, you won't lose any document.
Note: on this way, you might need to install again your drivers (mothearbord chipset, video, sound, network, wireless, etc.)

RE: Help!, my computer died
It sounds like windows may have crashed. Try to boot from a cd. (Insert your xp cd and then click a key when it says 'press any key to boot from cd')
If that dosnt work, attempt to run another system to check if your hard drive is damaged
Knoppix (A version of linux) is very good you can download it for free over bit torrent (It is officially distrubuted over bt, this isnt illgeal) Then run it from a cd, see if you can recover files then reformat and reinstall!
