Do you mean DSL and Cable?

Cable typically has (in Australia) download speeds burstable up to 10mbit/s (1.25 MB/s). Upload speeds are slow.

It doesn't use phone lines, but uses the HCF (Hybrid Coax Fibre) lines put in place by Optus/Telstra.

I personaly like my Optus Cable.

For $65 A month (Thats priced down due to Optus landline/mobile) I get 12gig on peek (12:00pm-11:59pm) and 24 gig off peak (12:00am-11:59am). Although, the new optus plans are more then that (20gig on/40gig off) but I like my 4 free months.

Optus upload is capped at 32k/s (Which has a funny story behind that.. the result was I got banned for a week after I took down a node..) which is fine for most things expect running your own webserver.

(A)DSL can be cheaper but it is slower. The new ADSL2 lines are in most locations on iinet and are as fast/faster then cable but more pricy.

I use BT Broadband

Pros:

1. 2.2mbps (fast!!)
2. £24 (UK Pounds - Cheap!!)
3. Unlimited use

Cons:

1. ocasionally (1-2 times a week - computer in use 56 hours per week) computer needs to be restarted if broadband trys to auto connect before the computer is fully booted
2. very ocasionally (2-3 times a year - computer in use 56 hours per week) needs to be reinstalled, if modem gets jammed

Overall:

1. I would definatally recomend to anyone wanting fast but cheep broadband
2. one month of this BT Broadband package - unlimited use, is the same price as, freeola dial-up - 3 hours use per a day.
