O.P. Lowering Cam Resolution
Hello, most of my friends don't have a broadband connection and so when we chat on cam it's always really bad because their image is like watching a slide show, one picture every few seconds. I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about. Well I've used other chat programs and there is one in particular that works really really well with 56k modems that you think youre on broadband. How do they do this? They automatically lower the resolution of both webcams according to their connection and the results are magnificant. I have never been able to lower this within msn messenger and am wondering, could there be a plugin created where it lowers the resolution manually or automatically within msn messenger so that the transmission is much faster and the webchat more enjoyable?
Just a thought

If such a plugin is possible, it would need to be installed both sides. However, I think it isn't possible: I think that intercepting the raw video stream and feeding a processed version to Messenger won't be possible without specialised drivers.

Would changing the Hz of the video have any effect on lowering quality? Cause its default 65Hz and i think there is 50Hz you can change it to.

Lowering the refresh rate will potentially reduce the amount of data sent. If possible, cut it to 25Hz: the minimum the human eye perceives as fluid motion.

That's because it doesn't send audio alongside the webcam.

I guess this is not possible. I'll continue to use the other chat program for cam purposes. Even though I have 1000kbps and one of my friends had 500kbps, we still didn't get fluid video on msn messenger, but was able to get it on the other chat program.
Thanks for the input.
